Apple Valley is one of the southern suburbs of Minneapolis and St. Paul. It is located about 25 minutes south of the metro area. It is also one of the suburbs people are referring to as “South of the River”, meaning south of the Minnesota River.
There are many different choices of real estate in Apple Valley. It has Single Family Homes, Condominiums and Town Homes. You can still find some new construction and land available by several area builders who would love to build a custom home for you. Apple Valley is quickly becoming an inner ring suburb. This is a great location to commute to the Downtown areas of both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The school district is Apple Valley/Rosemount Independent School District 196. It has three high schools, six middle schools and eighteen elementary schools. They offer a variety of special need classes, sports and music programs. The reason it is larger than most is because it shares a border with the neighboring suburb of Rosemount and some Burnsville homes are in the Apple Valley school district. The district as a whole has won many national awards of excellence.
Apple Valley was incorporated in 1968. According to the last census there were 45,527 people living here. Only about 75% of the land has been developed with more room to grow. The median household income is $63,849 and 95% of its adult residents hold high school diplomas.
Apple Valley has over 48 parks and recreation areas. There are miles of walking trails and bike routes. Most of the parks have picnic areas and play structures. Apple Valley is located 20 minutes from the Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport. Only 15 minutes from the world famous Mall of America. There are two downhill ski areas near by, Buck Hill which is located in Burnsville and Welch Village which is a much larger ski area and that is about a 50 minute drive. There are many golf courses to choose from in all price ranges from public to private. Cedar Avenue cuts through the heart of Apple Valley and runs right past the Airport, The Mall of America and all the way into Minneapolis. There are many shops including several different grocery stores like Cub Foods, Rainbow Foods, and Wal-Mart. The closest Hospital is The Ridges located in Burnsville which is about a 10 minute drive. Apple Valley is the home to the Minnesota Zoo, IMAX theatre and large community water-park.
